Wednesday, June 11 University funding, spending on the rise Do you ever wonder why this is? I mean, I spent a good portion of my undergraduate life focused on university finances, funding, and tuition levels, and I never really understood why being a university is getting so expensive. There are a few good reasons (inflation on library books, cost of infrastructure maintance, investments in information technology, etc) but on the whole universities by in large spend almost every dollar on wages. Why are people at universities so expensive? The faculty association at my alumnus, the U of C just negotiated a 4% increase - so it isn't going to just standard raises... bah. Maybe I will spend my graduate degree in hiding from these complexities. Pay my tuition, and be happy about it. What am I saying? Does anyone want to take a bet against that last statement? It would be a safe bet I think... posted by Duncan @ 5:04 PM © 2003-2010 Duncan Wojtaszek No reproduction whatsoever, in any form, without permission.
