Tuesday, September 30 One week to my birthday. Still no computer. But lots of good news. Just no confidence to post it all until I have a working computer at home. posted by Duncan @ 3:01 PM 0 comments Monday, September 29 Our computer has had a problem - still don't know how serious it is (computer won't boot, could be lots of different things) but the posts will be rare until it is fixed. posted by Duncan @ 11:04 AM 0 comments Saturday, September 27 I can smell my birthday coming... soon I will be a quarter century old. posted by Duncan @ 12:34 PM 0 comments Thursday, September 25 I am going shopping today... but for what you may ask? It is a secret. Also, there are only 12 more sleeps until my birthday... posted by Duncan @ 3:22 PM 0 comments Wednesday, September 24 My name is on my door! Soon I will have business cards. I hear they make excellent shopping lists. Tuesday, September 23 This is my first post from a Mac! Now I should get back to work... posted by Duncan @ 10:46 AM 0 comments Sunday, September 21 Oh, and a new table -

I have often wondered if people vote for themselves when their name is on the ballot. For the record, I never have but have only had the opportunity to do so once, when I ran for external commissioner at the U of C Students' Union. I voted for Toby (there were four positions, and he came in first and I came in... well, like I said, there were four positions and I handily took fourth place). I heard it was bad luck... but I imagine Murray voted for himself. And my new boss, Mat. And Zoe. Well, she hasn't run for anything yet. But if I did place her name on the ballot, I'm sure she would vote for herself. But did Paul? Early returns have him as high as 92% (Wow, Shelia Copps at 8%...), and given that you are commited on your first ballot as a delegate and so long as Paul gets 90% or more on the first ballot there won't be a second... so we now have a new Prime Minister. Congratualtions Paul. Still, would he vote for himself? There is that fundamental problem that in order to not vote for himself would involve voting for Shelia. Hmmm... posted by Duncan @ 11:06 PM 0 comments Thursday, September 18 You can go listen toSarah McLachlan's "Fallen" here! Mmmm... New album on November 4th.

Bernard: To govern Britain. Sir Humphrey: Well stop him, Bernard. Stop him! Actual conversation between Quynn and me: Quynn: How far left is she [one of my co-workers]? Duncan: She lists as one of her professional goals to bring down the government. Quynn: Well stop her, Duncan. Stop her! posted by Duncan @ 11:57 PM 0 comments Tuesday, September 16 Day two of my new job, and we've now been in Edmonton for two and a half weeks. Nothing real good to report. Things are not, of course, going quite as planned, but lots is going well I am happy to say. Well, there was the death of the Man in Black. I feel odd sometimes, reporting stuff in a blog. It is like I already had the Johnny Cash death post. Now reporting about it is over. Done. Finito. But it isn't. I still hurt. I feel, well, genuinely that the world has lost something. He had not retired. His work was still excellent. He was not done. I mean, perhaps he may have thought he was done. But I wasn't done with him. I'm so selfish. Well, fare thee well John. posted by Duncan @ 8:40 PM 0 comments Monday, September 15 One hour until my new job... posted by Duncan @ 7:27 AM 0 comments Sunday, September 14 Now, my Nobel Prize isn't coming in the mail anytime soon, but this does not strike me as a good idea. Heck, expulsion seems like a stupid idea. But killing Yassr Arafat seems like the opposite of protecting innocent lives - be they Israeli or Palestinian. Does anyone think this will lead to a safer Middle East and less bloodshed? posted by Duncan @ 10:35 PM 0 comments Saturday, September 13 Dalton McGuinty: He's an evil reptilian kitten-eater from another planet Now I've participated in a few elections in my time, but this? I'm not sure calling Dalton a... well, an alien cat eater was a smart tactical move. posted by Duncan @ 9:26 AM 0 comments Friday, September 12 Sadness too. Rest in peace. posted by Duncan @ 10:00 AM 0 comments I can so identify with Rea. I got the job too! It is perfect, it starts Monday, and I think they pay in dollars. And I think it will be fun. *much dancing around* I'm much happier - yesterday was the sad day, having moved to a new city without knowing many people and no place to go in the middle of the day... but now! The world is my oyster. Also, my apologies for not posting yesterday. The date... well, I wonder if I will ever be able to write (publically) how I feel about that day. I can't imagine how those who were touched far more by the event bring themselves to talk about it. Two years later and it is still painful. posted by Duncan @ 9:40 AM 0 comments Wednesday, September 10 Banana Pocky! You're perverted (although you'd rather just believe you're incredibly sexy) and you probably often make inuendos... such as... Banana Pocky. What Kind of Pocky are You? brought to you by Quizilla I don't think I am perverted. I reverse analysed the quiz and discovered that if I answer only intelligent on the first question, I am in fact ordinary chocolate Pocky. But I put both sexy and intelligent, hence the perverted banana. Regardless, I am off to eat some more Pocky now. Maybe next time I have two dollars I will get the almond Pocky. posted by Duncan @ 10:46 PM 0 comments I am sooo going to post this! Conversation with me and Duncan just now: Me: Why don't you have a bath before we go out? Duncan: No. I had a bath yesterday. Me: Laughs Duncan: What? I am unemployed! Why should I have a bath?! Oh, and earlier... in response to a (LOUD, AGGRESSIVE) knock at the door, Duncan opens the door (tentively) to some guy dressed all in Camo, and a buzz cut, who asks him for a knife. A KNIFE. Duncan goes to the kitchen to helpfully get the guy a knife, and I can see into the future - me saying to the police officer "Yes Sir. He DID give him the knife", so I follow behind him to make sure I can pull him out of harms way if need be. Turns out the potential psycho rambo boy was just our gardener who needed to open something. He left with a friendly "Thanks Dude" and a vindicated Duncan put the knife back. I just had to post those, cause I knew he wouldn't.... posted by Allie @ 10:00 AM 0 comments Tuesday, September 9 Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday Raven! Well, I'm sure they thought it went well, in fact I saw the one girl checkmarking the references she was going to call. But, the position was not what I thought it was, but in fact working in a call centre. Not that I hgave a problem with it per se, just that it also is a temporary position until December, it doesn't pay quite as much as advertised... etc. But they won't call until late next week. Hopefully someone else will call me back before then... posted by Duncan @ 1:17 PM 0 comments Thanks to Toby's website I found this... but I don't know what it is. I think I've narrowed it down to one of the following: a.) Asian Teletubbies? b.) Korean Sesame Street? c.) Pocky advertisement? (you can only eat 10!) d.) Korean Foundation for Number Literacy's website? You decide. posted by Duncan @ 9:10 AM 0 comments Wednesday, September 3 I am as excited as a very excited person who's got a special reason to be excited. And of course, again from Black Adder: Baldrick: No, the thing is: The way I see it, these days there's a war on, right? and, ages ago, there wasn't a war on, right? So, there must have been a moment when there not being a war on went away, right? and there being a war on came along. So, what I want to know is: How did we get from the one case of affairs to the other case of affairs? Edmund: Do you mean "How did the war start?" Baldrick: Yeah. George: The war started because of the vile Hun and his villainous empire-building. Edmund: George, the British Empire at present covers a quarter of the globe, while the German Empire consists of a small sausage factory in Tanganiki. I hardly think that we can be entirely absolved of blame on the imperialistic front. George: Oh, no, sir, absolutely not. (aside, to Baldick) Mad as a bicycle! Baldrick: I heard that it started when a bloke called Archie Duke shot an ostrich 'cause he was hungry. Edmund: I think you mean it started when the Archduke of Austro-Hungary got shot. Baldrick: Nah, there was definitely an ostrich involved, sir. Edmund: Well, possibly. But the real reason for the whole thing was that it was too much effort *not* to have a war. George: By (Gum? [it's not `God']) this is interesting; I always loved history -- The Battle of Hastings, Henry VIII and his six knives, all that. Edmund: You see, Baldrick, in order to prevent war in Europe, two superblocs developed: us, the French and the Russians on one side, and the Germans and Austro-Hungary on the other. The idea was to have two vast opposing armies, each acting as the other's deterrent. That way there could never be a war. Baldrick: But, this is a sort of a war, isn't it, sir? Edmund: Yes, that's right. You see, there was a tiny flaw in the plan. George: What was that, sir? Edmund: It was bollocks. Baldrick: So the poor old ostrich died for nothing. posted by Duncan @ 5:57 PM 0 comments And here we go...

Interview number two. And a bunch of other stuff. Oh and my room remains covered in boxes. But I will have pictures later today. Some three days later than promised. posted by Duncan @ 8:45 AM 0 comments Tuesday, September 2 Still in Edmonton, still have boxes, about to go for a job interview. All nervous. Of course, Blogger continues not to support my Edmonton location (apparently) meaning I and I alone am able to read this post. Hopefully, that will change in the near future. Maybe it is my web host? I will check when I get back from the interview. Another interview tomorrow too... posted by Duncan @ 10:47 AM 0 comments Monday, September 1 We have arrived. Exhaustion may now ensue. Also, Blogger seems to be working only occassionally at the moment for me. But not for Allie.
