Friday, October 31 Happy Hallowe'en! posted by Duncan @ 11:53 PM 0 comments Thursday, October 30 Stolen from Joel's blog, which, as he said, is a little something to brighten your day. And wow, what a day I had that needs brightening. I think three hundred projects just landed on my lap at work today. And they all had a completion date of... what was it again... oh, yeah. Today. posted by Duncan @ 9:58 PM 0 comments Wednesday, October 29 "DANBURY, Conn. - A snake was found in the divorce courtroom in Danbury, Conn., and no, it wasn't someone's spouse. Officials say a small, harmless reptile was discovered in the divorce courtroom at Superior Court. The snake wasn't venomous. It was about a foot long and about as big around as a small finger. Staffers aren't sure where the reptile came from, but they suspect it may have come in the mail. A state judicial marshal took the snake home and set it free on some farmland." In the mail? Staffers aren't sure, but suspect the mail? Not an open door, or someone brought it inside, but through the mail? I'm never opening my mail again. posted by Duncan @ 5:55 PM 0 comments Mr. Grumpy-pants. CNN.com - Breast Cancer Study posted by Duncan @ 3:44 PM 0 comments Monday, October 27 Interesting article - how to take care of the geek in Duncan. Interesting. Loving your geek, tolerating his hobbies posted by Duncan @ 11:35 PM 0 comments I remember the day I began learning HTML. 1997, and the university club I was in needed a web page. Well, they thought they did. Then turned to me. I looked the most geeky. I didn't know a thing about HTML but it was assumed my geekiness would prevail. Once I began learning how I was amazed. I couldn't get over how much I could learn and how much of a difference an hour of reading and trying got me. I started with the primers from the computing department at the University of Calgary, and quickly moved on to everything else there was to learn. Well, not everything else, but certainly enough that I know lots, more than almost anyone else I know in person and enough to have been paid to do it. Which is why it is so annoying and anger-inducing that I can't make my web page do what I want. Grr... Art is done. Copy is written. Design is in my head. Grr... I hate Mondays. I am so tired. Why don't I go to bed? It is 11:00 and there is nothing stopping me from going to bed. No reading. No homework. Nothing work-related (unless a certain VP Student Life e-mails me her copy). And yet, knowing me I will be not in bed three hours from now. Why? No good reason, except there is no Allie. She continues working night shifts until Wednesday night. I am so selfish. But yet halucination will soon result. I should make it to Wednesday. And then there will be sleeping. posted by Duncan @ 10:58 PM 0 comments Sunday, October 26 I was thinking last night, in the midst of my perfect guy evening (video games, movie, Hooters, wings, beer, hockey, Flames beating the Oilers, etc.) what a great idea for a video game - make the perfect date for guys. I suppose it could also have making the perfect date for girls too, for instructional purposes if nothing else. What would be the perfect girl date? Leave comments if you have any good ideas. posted by Duncan @ 2:06 PM 0 comments Friday, October 24 So it is official (in my own mind) - I am changing my blog template. It has been four months since I changed my template, and eight months since I first posted, meaning I can only go four months between changing my template. So, what will I do for this one? Will there be another one in four months? Am the only one who cares about the look of my site? So many questions. Wow. I want my weekend. Only five more hours (I have to stay for a meeting tonight). Then getting down at a government party, and then a weekend with Allie. Then the Indy documentary, Solaris, Soul Calibur, F-Zero and sex. And engagement announcements. posted by Duncan @ 12:22 PM 0 comments Wednesday, October 22 When this actually posts... Visit sarahmclachlan.com to see Sarah's new video. So good. I can't wait to buy the cd and listen to it with Allie for an evening. Darn you Christmas season, you will bankrupt me yet. posted by Duncan @ 3:42 PM 0 comments My blog is not working... grr. But I have Indy, so it is all good. posted by Duncan @ 1:39 PM 0 comments Monday, October 20 So tomorrow is Indiana Jones day. (I blogged about this in the past) I am now left with the question - do I buy my favourite movie of all time on DVD the day it comes out, or do I wait so that way my family isn't stuck going "What should I get Duncan for Christmas?" Well, buying the DVD set costs some dough, probably all my birthday cash. Let us check the comments on that post on what I should do with the birthday cash... Matrix Reloaded was already bought. Like Star said, I couldn't wait either and Allie was sweet enough to buy it for me as a gift. So any option with buying the Matrix is out. And we also saw Kill Bill, so the only movies left to watch are more cheap theatre worthy. That leaves Soul Calibur II (I have enough games at the moment, and Sophitia is no where near as hot as Tina), dinner out, strippers, or dancing, as I couldn't save up for a car if my life depended on it. Hmmm... Indy is $58... hmmm.... hmmmm... how much would it cost to have a stripper deliver pizza and Indy? Decisions, decisions, decisions. Indy is also kid-friendly. Hmm... I need two more jobs. At least. Damn material possesions. Damn capitalist system. If we were communist the government would recognize my need for Indy. Of course, people would not likely make Indy (one of the most expensive movies made, at the time)... *in best Indiana Jones trumpeting* Dadada - dadada - dadada - dadadada... I also need to sleep tomorrow night... but WAIT! Allie doesn't. Maybe I can have the best of all worlds... sex, Indy and food. I will talk about it with Allie. posted by Duncan @ 10:05 PM 0 comments Sunday, October 19 Wow. Bad blogging Duncan. So... in the long past interim... Friday: Went to lunch with Allie. Stayed super late at work. Then Allie went to work. I visited her at 2:00 AM. Yesterday: Happy birthday Auntie Theresa (my e-mail wasn't working yesterday and I wasn't near a phone, so happy belated birthday). Went to Galaxyland at WEM, thanks to beneficient Allie! And saw Kill Bill. It deserves several posts so I will think so more about it before I blog about it. But if you can stand violence in movies (or adore it like me) then drop what you are doing and go see it. Today: Nothing. Allie worked this morning, and we are resting for our upcoming week. We may grocery shop. The right is still trying to unite. Perhaps I should buy my PC membership to vote. Edmonton West PC president is... posted by Duncan @ 12:57 PM 0 comments Thursday, October 16
Wow. Not unexpected. But still wow. And what kind of tie is Harper wearing today? I mean of all his choices this morning, he picked that one? That is why the Alliance will never win government without help. Lots of help. Well, now who will be leader? If Brison goes, I'm going to volunteer for his campaign. I regret sitting on the fence last time. And Stu Hart died today. An interesting day to say the least. Some great coverage in the Globe and Mail and the National Post on the merger today (not online, but paper copies). posted by Duncan @ 8:41 PM 0 comments Tuesday, October 14 Ugh. I am not feeling so hot (although parts of me suspect it is just sleeping poorly coupled with eating too much turkey) and I my web host just informed me that my site may go down later this week. Not to worry however. If my site does go down, it won't be permanent and I will still be posting, and when the web host gets their act together, my posts will then be posted. But in the ideal world of course the site won't go down at all. Still no GST cheque by the way Mr. Chretien. Maybe Jean is just asleep at the switch. Or maybe he thinks Paul can take care of refunding me the GST I paid the past three months and is just off golfing or something.

Monday, October 13 Not quite as lazy as yesterday, but still pretty lazy. Some turkey, playing with a new computer (not my own mind you, but still fun in its own right). Ever have those long weekends where you don't want to go back to work? Even when you like your job? Or back to school? Wow, I wish I could sleep in a couple more days. Relax on the beach. Drink drinks with umbrellas in them. Must snap out of fantasy life. Poor Allie, she is working tonight and tomorrow night still. posted by Duncan @ 11:06 PM 0 comments Sunday, October 12 I was working on another blog, and accidentally destroyed my template - so if things look a little different, that is why. Usually, this would be a sign to make a new template, but without my computer, I am hindered in what I can and can't do in making a new template. So for now, this sad excuse of a half-template will have to do. posted by Duncan @ 8:33 PM 0 comments So I have a day to do nothing. I mean I could do housework, but I am saving it for tomorrow, for fear if I clean soemthing today, I will still have to clean it tomorrow. A whole day. I'm bored though, so maybe it isn't as good as I thought it was when I woke up. I'm going to go back to thinking what I can do with my birthday money. I sort of had to lend it to myself (well, the Royal Bank decided it needed it more than I did) so I have to wait until the 17th - or until the GST refund comes in the mail - so now I need ideas and a decision. If I had a poll, I would let you vote. But I suppose you can vote via comments. Here are the options so far:
Friday, October 10 More evidence I'm not the only trusting person - although the guy at my door was not wielding a machete. I would not have opened the door for a machete-carrying person. Click here... posted by Duncan @ 6:13 PM 0 comments Thursday, October 9 I have Blogger block. I want to talk, but I can't think of a topic. Hmm... F-Zero (my new birthday game) is fun! What else... I will ramble if I'm not careful. Perhaps I should return when I have something to talk about. Allie is a great and sexy goddess. Always a topic. But I digress, I shall return with a topic. posted by Duncan @ 3:35 PM 0 comments Tuesday, October 7 Oh, and I'm engaged! posted by Duncan @ 11:28 PM 0 comments Happy birthday to me Happy birthday to me Happy birthday dear me Happy birthday to me Originally I planned to write just that, but there is too much to say! I had a great birthday (lots of great gifts, a trip to Hooters - with a pic to follow - a super movie, friends and family, and of course, Arnold won in California. And not just win, but WIN. Not that I'm a Republican, but come on, the rest of the world wanted him to win. I certainly did). I love birthdays. Especially mine. posted by Duncan @ 11:23 PM 0 comments Sunday, October 5 Our Prime Minister continues to have some of the most interesting quotes... "Perhaps I will try it when it will no longer be criminal. I will have my money for my fine and a joint in the other hand." I'm not too certain that was a wise thing to say. And the image of it... Jean crusing the Ottawa or Shawinigan streets at night looking for some weed... or the image of an outgoing head of government talking about committing an illegal act when he leaves office... or the image he said - of Jean Chretien holding a couple of hundred dollars and a big fat one in his opposite hand. You know all politics are the same everywhere. I have seen my share of mini-politicians and real politicians and they all do this when they know they are gone but still have some time to kick around in power. Wow, I wasted my period of lame duck-ness when I was an elected person. I actually continued to go to work and try and get stuff done. Not next time. posted by Duncan @ 11:04 PM 0 comments Dan Snyder, the passenger in Dany Heatley's Ferrari and centre for the Atlanta Thrashers passed away today. A sad ending to the story. Well, I guess for Dany it isn't over yet, but still very sad. What a way to be shown you are still human, for both of them. posted by Duncan @ 10:56 PM 0 comments Saturday, October 4 So, the news that I referred to in my last post (which should be obvious if you read Star's comment) is that Allie and I are engaged to be wed!!! *much dancing around and happiness* And I have a birthday in three and a half days!!! *much dancing, though not as much dancing as when one is engaged to be wed* Much happiness. Well except that going into work on a weekend thing. That isn't so hot. And the cost of fixing the computer. But c'est la vie. Happiness certainly exceeds unhappiness at the moment. Well, except Allie is off to work tonight, which is boo. I will miss her. posted by Duncan @ 6:25 PM 0 comments Thursday, October 2 Borrowing of a laptop! Yay! I can blog again. But now, what to blog about... I have news! But the news should wait for some people to find out first through one-on-one contact... hmm... will call people this weekend. That is my plan. But if you are truly too curious, you could try Allie's blog... I'm sure that she will blog about it. Work and the university are good. And there is lots good about Edmonton. We all have reasons we love it (and of course we all miss certain things as well). Hmm... this is turning into a pretty generic post, isn't it? What else can I say? I have grown to despise my computer at work. Yes, even despite not even having a computer at home the jump to Apple is just to great. There is lots neat about having a work network environment but there is just so much that makes me long for a Windows environment. Last but not least, I have a birthday coming up! Yay birthday! Birthdays are fun. And Quynn (from whom the laptop is being borrowed from) is coming over tomorrow with pizza and a dog. And dogs are always good. Indeed, Mischief is one of the best parts of Edmonton, along with Quynn. And West Ed. And also, as a shameless plug for a internet friend's site, it also the home of Star. And of course, Allie and my family. posted by Duncan @ 8:50 PM 0 comments © 2003-2010 Duncan Wojtaszek No reproduction whatsoever, in any form, without permission.
