Wednesday, March 29 Paul Stanway, a columnist at the Edmonton Sun muses about the PC Leadership race in his column today. He does a small bit on Oberg at the beginning, and that is where the headline Oberg saying what lots of Tories think comes from. But after the bit on Oberg, he focuses on Mark Norris, and interviews Norris supporter Minister of Agriculture Doug Horner, who has gives a great slam against frontrunner Jim Dinning. Horner gives a positive review of Ed Stelmach but says Norris is his man. Asked about Dinning he says: "I don't know Jim real well. I think I was in Grade 5 when he was in government."Zing! For those who missed it, Minister of Advanced Education Dave Hancock announced yesterday he was definitely in the race too, but has some loose ends to finish with the A Learning Alberta review and other post-secondary priorities before leaving his portfolio but will have his game face on before the June 1 deadline. posted by Duncan @ 8:18 AM © 2003-2010 Duncan Wojtaszek No reproduction whatsoever, in any form, without permission. If Mr. Horner (born in 1961) is only 9 years younger than Mr. Dinning (born in 1952) and I assume that he was around 10 years old when he was in grade 5, that means that Mr. Dinning was in government when he was 19 years old (can I do math?). 19 years old ending up being around 1971. Dinning didn't become an MLA until 1986, when Mr. Horner would have been around 25 years old (and hopefully not still in grade 5). Of course, previous to that, Dinning was a political staffer (previous to 1986, not 1971 - when Horner was presumably in grade 5). But then again, Horner isn't really one to talk about being in government too long considering he is the offspring of one of Alberta's politically dynastic families. I'm confused.

I think my conclusion was that they're both old.

Good conclusion - although depends on how you define government, as Jim was made a Deputy Minister (!) at age 31 (!!) - IIA. That leave me only three and a half years to make deputy.
