According to Corus radio stations QR77 and 630CHED Innovation and Science Minister Victor Doerksen has resigned from the Alberta cabinet to persue the leadership of the PC party. If so, Dr. Morton has competition for most right of centre candidate.

What if Mr Doerksen is actually helping Dr. Morton by drawing more social conservatives out to participate in the PC leadership than only one such candidate might attract. The potential synergy there is very interesting...as is second ballot support between them No doubt the religious based social conservatives are engaged and ready for this leadership selection process. They do not have to spend much money because they are so well organized already...thank Stockwell Day for that and then keeping quiet so Harper was not"Scary" in the "second" federal election as he was in the first.

My other thought was that perhaps Doerksen is running to increase the value of his endorsement of Morton - a little too conspiracy theorist perhaps, but being endorsed by the perceived fifth or fourth runner has its merits.

Third theory - Doerksen's entry is a move by Dinning's team to bleed Morton's support...

But Doerksen supporters would still go to Dr Morton on the second ballot no? I'm not convinced his entry will have a significant impact on any of the other campaigns, but we shall see...

The Dinning theory tends to make more sense, after all with more social conservative candidates to split the vote on the 1st ballot, there's less of a chance that either will make it to the all-important second ballot... Of course, *shudder* there may be enough social conservatives out there voting for that not to matter... :-(
