Wow - I'm positively shocked at the left-wing butchery of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. I was appalled at what happened to the record of a good man when "Swift Boat Vets for Truth" decimated Senator John Kerry's name in the previous American presidential election. I hate this side of politics. So Governor Palin's daughter had pre-martial sex and got pregnant - we all make mistakes when we are teenagers. After all, Laura Bush killed someone when she was 17 (in a car accident) - does that mean George Bush can't be President? Barack Obama snorted cocaine when he was a teenager - can he be President?

I'm certain this does not help the Obama/Biden ticket as much as their supporters think.

Agreed. Terrible move on the part of the left and the media - especially after Palin's speech last night appealed directly to the anti-intellectualism of the red states, basically sending them the message:

      1) Don't trust the media! They're out to get us.
      2) Don't trust the elites! They're out to get us.
      3) Don't listen to Obama! He talks pretty, and only the elite talks pretty.

Which is only counterproductive to the Democrats' ability to get their message out. Continuing to target Palin would be a mistake.

I think bringing up the pregnancy is fair when you're talking about a public figure who advocates abstinence education. 'Bringing up' and 'harping on' are 2 very different things though. It is disgusting to see some of the language out there. Which side of the political spectrum supports a modern family? Because it's pretty hard to tell in the US right now. There is more mainstream ridicule of Bristol than there was of Obama being from a non-traditional family.

There have been a number of serious concerns raised about Palin. Apparently not enough to keep the media from being incredibly, blatantly sexist though. Palin herself won't swing any Hilary supporters. But the reaction to Palin by the left just might.

I don't think this has anything to do with a liberal media bias. It has a lot to do with the media's sexist bias (and their stupid bias).

Because she is a woman the media (and perhaps a certain camp) feels that it is ok to comment on things that relate to her inherently being a woman. What kind of mother is she if her daughter is pregnant (never mind no one can really control a 17 year old)? What kind of mother is she if she abandons her baby to be VP (nevermind she has managed to raise four others while in politics). that kind of thing. Makes you wonder why women don't want to be involved in politics?

It fascinates me (in a sad, sad, way) that both society and the media have made genuine, significant progress in discussing issues of race and even homosexuality in our very recent history. Why is it that we have not been able to make progress on issues of gender in the same way? The media's coverage (and the responses of partisans of both stripes) to Hilary, Michelle Obama, and Governor Palin have just been ridiculous.
