First of all, I have a powerful argument for the state-owned, communist-style health care system we enjoy in Canada - I have made a choice about my cat's health partially based on finances (although not entirely).

My cat is sick, with a thyroid problem. Also she has kidney stones, which are related. Poor Zoë.

Now, there is two possible courses of treatment - one, a radioactive iodine treatment, which can only be done in Calgary or Saskatoon. It costs $1,500 and may take two treatments. Between $1,500 and $3,000. Or she can take medicine (for the rest of her natural life) that will control her thyroid. That costs $15 every month. Now, we haven't made the final decision (we have to put her on the medicine in any case first to nail down the problem) and this problem has already cost more than we would like a cat to cost, upwards of $400. But when it is all said and done, we'll likely not go with the procedure, rather opting for the medicinal route.

But I didn't mean to whine about the price, as my cat is indeed priceless. But I did want to whine for my cat - she is so irritable now, and dislikes everything associated with movement. But she has become much more clingy. I want my cat to get well. Allie keeps reminding me that my cat is not immortal and is likely not to outlive me (she is ten, and at my age of 28, it is unlikely that she will see her fiftieth birthday when statistically I should be at death's door, or at least in the waiting area). Get well
    Zoë!
